| Maihan High School - Peshawar Pakistan The
School was founded by the APA on September 1st, 1999 in Kacha Ghari camp Gul Abad
area, Peshawar, Pakistan. Funded by the APA through
June, 2002, the cost of the school was $500 U.S. per month. The capacity of the
school was 300 students, of which 60% were female and 40% male. At the start,
the school had only 145 students ranging from 1st - 8th graders. By the year 2000,
the number increased to 250 students and by September 2001, it had increased to
300 students with students from 1st through the 10th grade, as was originally
visualized by the school board. The school was staffed by 12 individuals, both
men and women as teachers, principal, and assistants. The
majority of the students are planning to return to Afghanistan by the end of this
school year. Therefore, funding by the APA will no longer be required. The
APA central council would like to express its deepest appreciation to the entire
staff, community, and parents for making the Maihan High School a success. We
share the pride and joy with you in knowing that many children were able to receive
basic education during the darkest times of war and desctuction in Afghanistan.
